Quote from Chris Henson on August 6, 2025, 1:40 pmFollowing the death of Mrsabo, the group decided to investigate the cave from which the direwolves had emerged. Inside, they found a wolf — not one of the snarling beasts from the night before, but a quieter creature, protecting a single pup. It watched them with wary eyes, but made no move to attack. The group chose to leave it be. Also, strangely, the bodies of the direwolves that had been slain during the attack were no longer on the ground. No blood, no fur — just the churned earth where the battle had taken place.
Returning to the wagons, the group examined the items from Mrsabo's lockbox, and prepared Mrsabo’s body for burial. Kharos dug a grave and laid her to rest, positioning her so that her head faced south-southwest — back toward New Wyntiri. He carved a simple stone with her name: “Mrsabo.”
Around the grave, the group discussed their future, and agreed to continue on together. Murtagh was chosen as the new Chairman of the group, which they renamed the Merchants of the Moon.
Renfold informed the group that in addition to gathering information for book (a line that seems to hold true for virtually all Maugtheni) he was also a fortune teller — one who used a unique kind of card that revealed truths through the symbols a person noticed, both on the card and in the world around them. The group agreed to honor Renfold's contract originally made with Mrsabo to journey southward and find the Wizard.
The next morning, the group continued their journey toward Feetal’s Outpost. About a day out, they came across a carved statue of Fee — the craftsmanship was exquisite, and the stone had been worked in some unsual (but highly skilled) way to look like metal. At its base were the words: “3 gold per wagon, no declarations, no king or overlord, just me, Fee!”
That night, the next after the full moon, Anu hear movement in the dark. But the next morning, there were no tracks, and no one disturbed the caravans.
They next day, they approached Feetals Outpost, which proved to be larger and more active than expected. Several plots of tilled land surrounded a more fortified central wooden palisade which enclosed a well and several buildings (including the Reeve's office and the workshop of Farzenbol and Thackelrey). Some of the palisade wall was damaged from a recent tornado. Additionally, just outside the pallisade walls were a collection of tents and local merchants
• The Outpost's Reeve -- a human woman named Melasand who hailed from New Wyntiri, met the group and welcomed them into Feetal's Outpost. When the group began to share with her the story of their adventures with the Elflaw, she summoned Fee Tal (the Odari woman who the outpost was apparently named after), as well as Farzenbol and Thackelrey -- a rail-thin Omenari and his Maugtheni sculptor friend -- who were apparently friends of Fee and well-know creators of "automatons" or "golems".
• The Merchants of the Moon (MotM) shared their story with her — the destruction of the Sabelite Monastery, the attack by the Elflawvin and the antlered Adandazan, the keening child, the elffire, the nodestorm, and the direwolves under the visaged moon. Fee and her friends listened carefully, asking a number of questions and shooting each other knowing looks.
• Farzenbal identified the storm -- and the wolf attack -- as "node magic" — a rare and powerful form of spellcraft, known to be used by the Black Canons. According to Farzenbol, it could cast it from great distances, particularly when someone had been marked. He also told them that Elflawvin could move invisibly under the light of the full (and to a lesser degree near full) moon.
• Fee offered the group shelter in the Outpost for their safety. That said, she noted that if they chose to continue on their journey, and they learned anything more about the Elflawvin, she would appreciate if they would get word back to her, so that she could help defend those in the area.
• In terms of trade, Melisand shared a list of tasks the Outpost was seeking help with — including the recovery (preferably alive) of a creature known as a "glaurinkol" — loosely translated as “owlbear.” She also let the group know that Feetal's Outpost was looking to establish itself as a place where finer goods could be purchased, so arts, trinkets, metal and culinary delicacies (bear's head mushrooms, summerberries, voidytips, hangmans root) would be readily purchased by her directly on behalf of the town.
• Melisand also told the group that only healing potions labeled as "St. Hamlin’s Golden Miracle Discoveries" would be sold at Feetal's Outpost -- she had an arrangement with the Wayward Saints (and Baasha their leader) for the exclusive deal.
• Following their information exchange with Fee and Melasand, the MotM ventured into the wagons and tents outside the palisade. Among the sellers was a representative of the Wayward Saints, who handed them a card.
There was lot that went on last session! Feel free to add anything that I have forgotten or skimmed over. I'll be sharing the items that you guys can purchase in another email -- as well as how we will be using "Goods Cards" to help capture the flavor of being a merchant without getting too bogged down in the details. More to follow on that.
