Flag & Heraldry (The Tome of the Sifforoth)
The Tome of the Sifforoth — A white field with an open tome of royal purple with seven purple stars arcing over it. The earliest, most ancient alphabets were inspired by the constellations of the Sifforoth, and all arcane symbols are steeped in their lore. The Sifforoth represent the pinnacle of knowledge and power, as such, they are part of both the Maugholdings (and New Wyntiri’s flags.)
Geography
The Maugholdings is primarily a peninsula that jut outward from the eastern coastline. The land was once forested, but over the past centuries, it has been cleared and cultivated, gentrified and citified. Now, little natural area remains — most territory has been converted to city or industrialized terrain. The Maugholdings are unique because of this uber-industrialization. Orh-towers are perfectly positioned to provide spells coverage, and roads and cities are clean, organized, protected and well-lit.
The Maugholdings have colonies and holdings, mostly smaller islands in the eastern ocean that they believe to be remnants of the Wyntiri Empire; Maugtheni holdings are almost always well-organized, but no Orh-Towers exist apart from the mainlain.
Cahedra
The core of Maugtheni society revolves around the Cahedra, collegium-organizations of scholarship and knowledge that influence the thought, politics, and philosophies of virtually every citizen. The Cahedra are ranked in terms of prestige (though some debate rages). Each college has its own unique area of expertise.
The Cahedra are places of study and scholarship. Non-Maugtheni are tolerated (or even welcomed) as long as they share a love of academia and knowledge. Other than the erudite, however, foreigners are few and far between in the Maugholdings.
The Cahedra are more than schools, they extend power into the personal and daily life of the towns and citizens of the Maugtheni. For example, the Central Cahedric Orders operate a string of orphanages known as the House of Cahedric Learning and Moral Certitude in several cities and ports of the nation, with the hope that through the ministrations of the House (and other Houses like it), it could help the poor and struggling by educating their children.
Naval Holdings
The Maugholdings boasts the largest armada of any of the nations, and ALL Cahedra have master level curricula on navigation, exploration and seacraft. Virtually any nation that is interested in exploration will extend overtures to one or more of the Cahedra in order to include its trained graduates as part of their plans.
Dress
Maugtheni fashion is quite unlike that of the mainlaind. Fashions change yearly, and are dictated by the various Cahedra. Silks and puffy outfits prevail, often with coifs, or capes, or both. Two things that remain in fashion are powdered, heavily braided false beards (the Maugtheni are unable to grow them naturally), and the feddlebrim, large, elaborately sculpted top hats that often speak to the specific area of expertise or interest that the Maugtheni is interested in.
Food and Cuisine
Maugtheni tastes are varied, and most citizens have a varied pallet. Commonly used components include apples, pears, white fish, shoreshell spider (a kind of crab), and purple elder leaf.
